Welcome! I'm Melanie Del Rosario, your friendly neighborhood math teacher.
BACKGROUND:
I am from Los Angeles, CA. I grew up in a large family and I was the middle child. Growing up, I hated homework. I never did it. But I loved games, sports, and music. During high school, I played trombone in the concert band and competed on the water polo and swim teams. After graduating, I went on to pursue a degree in math education at Brigham Young University - Idaho. During my college experience, I spent almost two years living in Peru where I became fluent in Spanish. While I went to school, I worked three jobs. I worked as a math tutor for every level of math from Beginning Algebra to Multi-variable Calculus. I was also a teaching assistant for two different professors. I assisted and taught introductory Calculus to future engineers. I also assisted and taught Number Theory and Elementary Geometry to future elementary school teachers. Over the years I became familiar with the progression of Geometry beginning in Kindergarten up to the college level courses. I was responsible for preparing future teachers to assist children in math. And now here I am...
Currently I am a licensed teacher in Nevada, certified in math and physical education. I have taught: Fundamentals of Mathematics, Geometry, Girl's PE, and College Prep Math. I am pursuing a masters degree in curriculum & instruction.
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
My classes are student centered. We focus on problem based learning and lessons are differentiated to meet the needs of as many students as possible. I truly believe that every student can succeed! Math class should be a setting where students can develop critical thinking, confidence, and collaborative skills. I knew I wanted to be a geometry teacher since the day I stepped foot into my geometry class at age 13. I hope to inspire students in the same way to reach for and work for their own dream jobs.
